Eco-Village Initiatives in Turkey and a New Alternative Life

Today’s settlements are typically getting less and green with residents craving more for the nature. On one hand, individuals are becoming tired with big city life, on other, social togetherness is weaker weaker. Such problems that faced a global scale in today’s world considered to be potential causes of greater problems future. With hypothesis building alternative sustainable living environments increasing number such critically important, concept Eco-Villages gradually becoming popular today. Ecovillages a type intelligent with ecological characteristics as natural agriculture livestock activities, thus producing their own nutrients, utilizing renewable energy systems, transforming wastes having self-sufficient collective social life. While there successful examples eco-villages throughout the world, Turkey rather limited. The present study analyzes certain Eco-Village initiatives proposes an alternative sustainable model its principles reference the question, “How can we achieve Eco-Villages?”, based survey data collected from 660 participants. proposed Smart Settlement Model, systematizes city-village relationship. Social structure, physical structure, energy-related strategies determined eco-village model, it aimed reorganize spatial, sociocultural, productive structures between village three-stage settlement system established according characteristics. It contributes to the economy region country through various forms production, ensures development, offers an alternative way living, ensuring sustainability global economy.
